To the California Star Oil Works Company (a Corporation)

You will please take notice, that, where as for a period of ninety days next preceding the date hereof, you have failed and neglected to properly or in a workman like manner operate or use the oil wells and spring as situated upon the following described property in the County of Los Angeles, California, to wit: Commencing at a point five hundred feet (500 ft) due east from what is known as the Pico Oil Springs, said point being a stake marked No 1, from thence north five hundred feet (500 ft) to a stake marked No 2, thence west one thousand feet (1000 ft) to a stake marked No 3, thence west south one thousand feet (1000 ft) to a staked marked No 4, thence east one thousand feet to a stake marked No 5, thence north five hundred feet (500 feet) to a stake marked No 1, the place of beginning; the same being one thousand feet of what is known as the Pico Oil Springs Claim, in accordance with the provisions of a certain indenture of lease made by R. S. Baker oral to Reuben Denton, dated April 12th 1876, and by said Reuben Denton to you assigned, on or about the 5th day of May 1876, or to deliver to the leasers in said lease or either of them, or to the undersigned, one eighth part or any others or any part of the petroleum and carbon oil by you pumped and raised on the premises herein before and in said lease described, that we have elicited to and hereby elect to and do consider said indenture of lease null and void and forfeited, of no further force or effect, and the period thereof and therein provided for terminated; and we hereby demand of you to return and deliver to us forthwith all the above described premises together with all and singular the appurtenances thereof.
