Notice is hereby given that the undersigned have this 28th day of July A.D. 1865 taken up eight claims of one thousand feet square each on this asphaltum, bitumen, naptha, or petroleum lead, herein called the "Leaming" Lead; and that they claim all asphaltum, bitumen, naptha and petroleum leads, springs and deposits within the limits of said claims and also the land for mining purposes therein contained, and that they intend to work the same according to the laws of the San Fernando Petroleum Mining district, said claims are situated on the northern slope of the San Fernando Range of mountains, commencing at a point five hundred feet north from the S.W. corner of the "Rice" mining claim, thence west two (2) thousand feet, thence north four thousand feet, thence east two (2) thousand feet, thence to the place of beginning four thousand feet.

O. P. Robbins claims 1000 ft.

Whereas the above named parties did on the 28th day of July A.D. 1865 make application to me the undersigned Recorder of the aforesaid district, to be placed in possession of the mining property described in the foregoing notice, and I having proceeded to the above described premises, and finding the same not to be upon private property, and not before taken up under any mining laws, did place the said parties on the 28th day of July A.D. 1865, in peaceable and quiet possession of said premises.
