Joseph Rice to Vincent Gelcich

This indenture, made the 17th day of January A.D. one thousand eight hundred and seventy three, between Joseph Rice, resident of the County of Los Angeles, State of California, the part of the first part, and Dr. Vincent Gelcich, resident of the same place, the part of the second part, witnesseth that the said party of the first part, for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred ($300) dollars gold coin, to him in hand paid by the said party of the second part, at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, has remised, released, and quit claimed, and by these presents does remise, release, and quit claim unto the said party of the second part, and to his heirs and assigns forever, all the right, title, interest, claim and demand, in and to, the Grizzly Run Canon mining, petroleum, or asphaltum claims, commonly known as the Joe Rice Petroleum Asphaltum Claim (being Leaming & Co's location).

The said canon & asphaltum claim is situated upon parts of Section fifteen and twenty two, Township (3) North, Range (16) West of S.B.M. corresponding to the public survey. For a more particular description reference may be had to the Records of the Los Angeles Asphaltum and Petroleum Mining District [which are now lost-sw]. Together with all and singular the tenements, hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging, or in anywise appertaining, and the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders, rents, issues and profits thereof; and also all the estate, right, title, interest, property, possession, claim and demand whatsoever, as well in law as in equity, of the said party of the first part, of, in or to, the above described premises, and every part and parcel thereof, with the appurtenances.

To have and to hold, all and singular, the above mentioned and described premises, together with the appurtenances, unto the said party of the second part, his heirs and assigns, forever. In line 17, Petroleum & in line 18, Petroleum interlined before signing.

State of California County of Los Angeles On 17th day of January A.D. one thousand eight hundred and seventy three, personally appeared before me, Salisbury Waley a Notary Public in and for the said County of Los Angeles, Joseph Rice, whose name is subscribed to the annexed Instrument as a part thereto, personally known to me to be the same person described in and who executed the said annexed Instrument, as a party thereto, and said Joseph Rice duly acknowledged to me that he executed the same freely and voluntarily, and for the uses and purposes therein mentioned. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my official seal, the day and year in this certificate first above written.
