Christopher Leaming being sworn deposes and says:

On the 26th day of July 1877, I was acting as recorder of the San Fernando Oil District, in said county. On that day James Feore, who was at the time in the employ of the California Star Oil Works Co, offered to me for record, and requested me to record notice of location of the Pico Oil Claim, including the Pico oil wells, which notice I refused to accept. This was in the presence of H. C. Dunton.
