Elsmere Canyon, October, 2019, "Saddleridge" Fire Damage
The Saddleridge fire started on October 10, 2019, and was 97% contained by October 22. Around 8800 acres were burned. Elsmere Canyon was not in the immediate fire area. Virtually all of the fire damage was south of the actual creek bed. The fire only barely reached the creek bed in some places.
The following photos were taken on November 3rd, 8th, and 10th, of 2019.
Looking southeast down Elsmere Canyon. On the right, the fire barely reached the creek bed in a couple of places.
From the bottom of the canyon, we can see where the fire came down.
Looking west to the Center at Needham Ranch.
Some oil artifacts were exposed by the fire.
Here we are near the Elsmere 24 well site. If the photo was wide enough, the San Fernando Valley would be seen on the left.
Far in the distance is the Center at Needham Ranch.
These pipes are also near the site of Elsmere 24.
The San Fernando Valley is to the right of this photo. Man hike on road up ahead.
Newhall Pass. Sunshine landfill in the distance. SFV just to the left of the landfill.
Hard concretions jut out of the rock layers just above the burn area.
Highway 14 on left. View towards northeast.
