Ferris Borden House

Ferris W. Borden (1908-1984) was the superintendent of the Barnsdall Oil Company facilities in the Newhall-Potrero oil field from 1945 to 1952. A house was built for him and his family in 1945 and is still standing in 2024. In 1997, his daughter, Judy Stevens, wrote a story in the Old Town Newhall Gazette about her days in Newhall as a youngster. However, she did not write anything about the oil field. Her story can be read on the SCVHistory.com website here. The Gazette was included in the Newhall Signal of February 1, 1997.

Using Google Maps, I located the house, shown here.

From higher up, we see that the house is about 1.2 miles from the "Y". The "Y" has a free parking area. Here, the left fork of the road heads to Mentryville and the right fork, blocked by a locked gate, into Potrero Canyon. The houses in the upper right are the west end of Stevenson Ranch.
