COMPLAINT

Andres Pico, Plaintiff, in this suit by Mitchel & Chapman, his attorneys, complaining of Jeronimo Lopez and Joseph Rice, Defandants, for cause of complaint says, that heretofor to wit, at the County of Los Angeles, state of California, and on the 1st day of January AD 1860, plaintiff was in the lawful possession of the whole of the Rancho known as "The Mission of San Fernando Rancho" and entitled to the possession there of. Said Rancho is situated in Los Angeles County, State of California, and that on the day aforesaid defendant Jeronimo Lopez entered and [?] dispossessed Plaintiff of the following piece, parcel or portion thereof, to wit, a certain house and corral attached thereto situated about one mile from [?] west of north from the Mission buildings of said Rancho, said house and corral containing about four acres more or less, being entirely within [?] lands of said Mission de San Fernando Rancho.

Plaintiff avers that said Defendant Lopez has leased said house, land, premisses, appurtenances to Defendant Joseph Rice, who is now [?] in possession of the house.

Plaintiff avers that said Defendants [?] requested to quit, leave and deliver up the possession of said land and surrender the [?] to Plaintiff, but that Defendants have refused and still refuses so to do. Plaintiff further avers that said piece, parcel or body of land thus seized [?] and occupied as aforesaid, by Defendants is economically worth the sum of two hundred dollars per annum.

Wherefore Plaintiff prays judgement that he have restitiution of said land and that Defendants deliver the possession thereof to Plaintiff, and that Plaintiff have judgement against Defendants at the rate of two hundred dollars per annum for the use and occupation thereof from the 1st day of January AD 1860 and for costs of [?] relief.
