Sewell & Jones 8 Abandonment
Santa Ana 1 was drilled in 1901 by the Santa Ana Oil Company. It was purchased around 1907 by E.A. Clampitt and became Clampitt 8. After the Sewell & Jones Company took over it became Sewell & Jones 8. It was not possible to drive a truck to the well site, so a long hose was used to fill the bore hole with zonite and cement.
From the DOGGR abandonment report from Excalibur Well Services, here is what was done:
12/14/11: Run in hold with weighted string line and tag at 600 feet. No fluid on string during retrieval, well is dry. Drop a total of 73 cubic feet of zonite down well.
12/15/11: Hydrate zonite with 11 barrels of fresh water.
12/28/11: Mix and pump 251 cubic feet of class G cement in 3 stages per DOGGR.
12/29/11: Mix and pump 60 cubic feet of class G cement to top of annulus.
12/29/11: Surface crew welded the API plate to the casing with the # 037-13226. Well could not be dug up and buried due to its location on the hill side, location is complete.

The well was marked with yellow tape long before any work began (4/16/2011)
The road to Sewell & Jones 8 starts at Sewell & Jones 12, shown here while it was being regraded. Although a large truck could not be driven to the well, the road needed to be cleared to make it safer for humans and free of brush for the cement hose to the well. (11/26/2011)
They did manage to clean up the road to the well site with a backhoe (11/26/2011)
The hose at the well site along with some warning tape. The site is on a very steep hill side looking down into Elsmere Canyon. (12/19/2011)

At Sewell & Jones 12, the hose to Sewell & Jones 8 would be attached to a cement pump trailer (12/19/2011)
They are about ready to pour in the cement (12/24/2011)
The coating of white on the casing indicates that the cement was poured (12/30/2011)
A well number plate has also been welded on the top of the well casing (12/30/2011)
